Four schools in the municipal education system participated in the Leader in Me program, an initiative by 7H Brasil in partnership with Pecege and the Piracicaba City Government, through the Municipal Department of Education. On October 1st, 359 first- and second-grade elementary students gave presentations about their journey throughout the year at EM Prof. Luis Claudio Alves. The school was recognized as one of the top three schools in Brazil for its implementation of the program.
The project began in late February with training for staff at the following schools: EM Maria Benedicta Pereira Penezzi, EM Prof. Ada Buselli Neme, EM Prof. Décio Miglioranza, and EM Prof. Luis Claudio Alves. The initiative aims to foster leadership, student agency, and social-emotional development. This year, 7H is serving 21 schools across eight cities and two states. “Leader in Me is a social-emotional education program based on Stephen Covey’s ‘7 Habits.’ It aims to develop fundamental skills for the holistic development of students—such as self-awareness, responsibility, empathy, cooperation, communication, and leadership,” explained Kleber De Paulo, the organization’s president.
Organizers and partners of Leader in Me visited EM Prof. Luis Claudio Alves to attend a presentation prepared by the children, who shared insights into their learning through songs and personal stories. “It was a moving and highly significant moment. Seeing the children’s engagement, how they are grasping leadership concepts, and—above all—how they are putting the ‘7 Habits’ into practice in their daily lives, demonstrates the powerful impact social-emotional education can have on our students’ development,” noted De Paulo. During the program, teachers and the management team also reported changes they are observing in the children’s behavior and their interactions with one another, highlighting that the lessons learned extend beyond the school walls and reach their families.
According to the Municipal Department of Education, the goal is to continue the partnership. The school system welcomes support from companies and institutions so that more students and schools can benefit from the initiative.
